LSV (Street Legal) or PTV (Golf Cart)?

Where you live may dictate if you need a street legal cart or not. Look into your communities requirements before shopping for your next cart.

Standard Golf Cart (PTV)

While these carts are not considered "street legal," some municipalities and communities have local golf cart ordinances that allow golf cart use on roads listed 25mph or less. Contact your local DMV branch and HOA for clarification on golf cart usage.

Can I convert a standard golf cart to a street legal LSV? The short answer is Yes. You would need to add the same components listed on the left to make it safe and legal while on the roads. We specialize in PTV to LSV conversions and have what you need to make it happen. After your vehicle is converted you will have to take it to the DMV for an inspection so they can issue you a 17 digit and register with the state after provided proof of insurance.

Do I need to go to the DMV if I purchase an LSV from you? No. Thoroughbred Golf Carts will take care of all of the Title and Registration paperwork on your behalf. If you are trading in another LSV with your purchase we can transfer that plate to your new vehicle as well.

Street Legal (LSV)

These vehicles are allowed to drive on ALL Florida streets with a posted speed limit of 35mph or less. Every LSV must have the following:

• Head, tail and brake lights

• Front and rear turn signals

• AS4 Windshield

• Windshield wiper

• Seat belts for each seat

• Exterior mirror mounted on driver’s side AND either exterior mirror mounted on the passenger side OR interior mirror

• Parking brake

• Red reflex reflectors, one on each rear side and one on rear

• Electric horn

• Slow Moving Vehicle triangle

• Tag light

• Top speed greater than 20 mph, less than 25 mph

• Visible label that reads “This vehicle must not be operated on the public roads at a speed more than 25 miles per hour.”

• VIN

• Must have coverage on your auto insurance policy
